They said it was over, they said we were wrong…

Happiness, quickly followed by some disappointment

Night was amazing. Best sound we’ve ever had. We could finally hear ourselves. Lots of mates turned up. Cheers helped move the gig along. Nine songs spanning exactly 45 minutes. We ditched the cover coz it wasn’t 100% ready.

First five songs were written ten years ago. The last four songs were new, written only very recently. The newer songs seem to be the preferred songs, which is good news for us. As I said during the gig, “We can only write more new songs.”

We ended the night with “It’s Always Summer,” the same song we submitted for Baybeats 2010 audition. We implored the crowd to help get us through to the auditions, by clapping harder or something. We didn’t know it was too late. Found out this morning that there already is a shortlist––and we’re not on it.

This was taken in our dressing room before the gig. Never sat in one before. It had lots of dressing tables, mirrors, lockers and an en-suite bathroom, which, for some reason, smelled of balloons.

  1. Ahhhh c’mon dude….I like what Brian said about yesterday being good enough for ‘the baybeats’ experience…at least we’ll now more or less know how we’ll sound like the next time we play….at Baybeats! 😉

    • Hi Noel, Melvin, et al,

The only 2 bands that have seriously left an impression on me in Singapore (and I have sat thru a lot of bands, honest) are Shelves and Stellarium.

I felt seriously gutted that Shelves did not audition at Baybeats.

Anyway, Basement In My Loft would like to request to do a gig with Shelves – no doubt we’ll bring the house down. Of this I am certain. Whether you like it or not, it’s gonna happen!!! 🙂

Dunno where, but soon – hit me back!

  2. Wow Adrian, you’re really kind with your words! I checked your stuff out on your myspace, and I’m pretty much hooked on Truth Beckoning You right now!

In fact, I hope to get in touch with you soon, because I think Basement In My Loft should be Singapore’s representative of May’s edition of MAP on

We’d love to play a show with you someday, sorry we’ve been neglecting the blog.. but yes, a gig someday!
